POSITION: Director of Business Development

REPORTS TO: President

NO RELOCATION

POSITION DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Business Development reports to the President and is responsible for the strategy, direction, and execution of all Meeting Expectations sales efforts. This position is responsible for business development for the entire range of Meeting Expectations service offerings including meeting management solutions, association management solutions, and consulting services.

We are seeking a highly motivated, results oriented individual with a proven track record of sales success.

Specific tasks and duties include;

  • Developing and implementing sales strategies and supporting tactical plans in alignment with ME marketing efforts to enhance the ME brand, name recognition, and profile in the marketplace
  • Developing and implementing sales action plans, identifying measurable milestones to grow sales and increase customer loyalty
  • Building relationships with key clients, prospects, partners, and industry peers and associates
  • Assessing needs, providing input for sales proposals and conducting presentations for prospective clients
  • Ongoing competitive analysis and identification of differentiation points
  • Contract negotiation and execution
  • Sales forecasting and budgeting
  • Qualifying leads, maintaining CRM database (salesforce.com)
  • Analyzing the current marketing strategy of Meeting Expectations.
  • Researching new sales and marketing pipelines
  • Work with department and/or business unit leaders to determine staff assignments for prospective projects
  • Consulting with clients on budgets, strategic plans and resource planning
  • Hiring and developing sales support staff
  • Identify, build, and manage long-term relationships with strategic partners.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education: A bachelor's degree is required. Advanced training in marketing, meeting planning and/or association management is a plus.

Experience: At least seven years of sales and management experience. Experience selling to senior level executives is a plus.

Skills: Excellent project management, interpersonal skills, and analytical skills required including:

  • A strong emphasis on quality and customer service.
  • The ability to think and act both strategically and tactically and handle multiple tasks.
  • The ability to cultivate both internal and external relationships.
  • The ability to work effectively with volunteer committees and coordinate the actions of multiple groups in the development and delivery of marketing initiatives and the management of this function.
  • The ability to visualize the big picture while paying close attention to detail.
  • Superior communication skills (written & verbal), teamwork and problem solving skills.
  • The ability to create realistic project plans and accomplish objectives within agreed upon timeframes and budgets.
  • The ability to develop, analyze and consult on budgets.
  • Knowledge of implementing information technology applications in meeting and association management including web based programs and experience with electronic communications
  • Knowledge of third party meeting planning and association management company environment
  • Some travel is required (20-40%)
  • Hiring, training, and managing sales support personnel
  • Self-motivation and strong analytical skills

Compensation: Compensation consists of competitive base pay and an aggressive commission structure based on results. A robust benefits package including medical, dental, vision, LTD, STD, life, retirement, and paid time off is included.
